News

Fall 2026 Flag Football is BACK!!!

LMYA Flag Football is excited to welcome players back for the Fall 2026 season.

This season, teams may submit up to 5 player requests per team, including the head coach's child. The league will assign the remaining roster spots with the goal of creating balanced teams at each division. We try to keep rosters to approximately 10 players per team, but final roster sizes may vary depending on the number of registered players and available head coaches in each division.

For divisions U6 through U14, teams may request up to 5 players total. The U17 division may allow additional flexibility with player requests, depending on registration numbers and team formation needs. Final team placement will be handled by the league to help keep the season fair and competitive for all players.

All Fall 2026 divisions are recreational. There will not be a separate advanced division this season.

LMYA may also offer tournament flag football opportunities. Players who participate in tournament flag football are still welcome to play in the recreational league. However, full tournament teams will not be permitted to enter the recreational league as a complete team. The recreational league will remain focused on balanced teams, player development, and a positive experience for all athletes.

The updated League Rules will be updated before the start of the season.

2026 Fall Rulebook (PDF)

For the Fall 2026 season, LMYA Youth Flag Football will offer the following coed age divisions:

  • U6 — Ages 5 and 6 (players must be at least 5 years old by August 31, 2026)
  • U8 — Ages 7 and 8
  • U10 — Ages 9 and 10
  • U12 — Ages 11 and 12
  • U14 — Ages 13 and 14
  • U17 — Ages 15 through 17 (allows high school students to participate)

The age cutoff date for the Fall 2026 season is August 31, 2026. A player's division is based on their age as of that date. (Example given: a player turning 13 on August 30, 2026 would play in the U14 division.)

Youth Coed Rec Division — U6 through U17

The LMYA Youth Coed Rec Division is open to players from U6 through U17, including high school students who are still eligible for the U17 division.

Our rec league is designed to give players a fun, competitive, and positive flag football experience. All teams will participate in regular season games, and divisions may include playoffs and championship games at the end of the season.

League details:

  • Each player should receive approximately 50% playing time.
  • Teams may request up to 5 players/friends together, including the coach's child.
  • Final team placement will be handled by the league to help keep teams as balanced as possible.
  • This is a recreational league, but games are still competitive and organized.

Youth Rec games are typically scheduled on Friday nights after 5:30 PM and Saturdays between 9:00 AM and approximately 2:00 PM. Final game times may vary by division based on the number of teams, field availability, and the overall league schedule. LMYA tries to avoid Sunday through Thursday games whenever possible, but weather postponements, field availability, or other scheduling conflicts may require occasional weekday makeup games.

Practices are scheduled by each team's coach and may vary based on coach availability and field space.

  • Youth Rec teams may practice no more than 2 days per week, with a maximum of 3 total practice hours per week.
  • Example: a team may practice two times per week for 1.5 hours each, or once per week for up to 3 hours. Teams may not exceed 2 practice days or 3 total practice hours in a single week.

The Fall 2026 season will begin with a scrimmage weekend on August 28–29, followed by the regular season after Labor Day. Games are planned to be held at Quarry Park unless field availability requires the league to use another approved location.

Please remember that all LMYA coordinators and coaches are volunteers. We ask all players, coaches, and families to show good sportsmanship at all times. Poor sportsmanship, abusive language, or inappropriate behavior toward players, coaches, referees, volunteers, or other families will not be tolerated.

Five Things Your Child Will Learn Playing Flag Football

June 28, 2016

Youth flag football gives children the option to play football with the same fitness and competitive benefits of tackle football, but with less risk of injury. Along with the physical benefits of playing a sport like flag football, there are also multiple character building benefits for your child.

TEAMWORK

Youth flag football is a great team sport option for children. The sport offers kids the chance to play, work and have fun with a group of other children and teaches them skills to work together. Teamwork is a big aspect of flag football as kids learn how important it is to collaborate with others and work towards a common goal.

THE VALUE OF PRACTICE

Along with teamwork, coaches will teach your child the importance of practice. As coaches work on fundamentals to help your child learn the game, players discover that practice is an important part to playing a sport, and that without practice, improvement in any skill can be difficult.

HOW TO COMPETE

Playing a youth sport such as flag football teaches your child how to compete, as an individual and also as a member of a team. Working hard on the playing field provides learning lessons that can go beyond sports.

VALUABLE SOCIAL SKILLS

Flag football is also a great way for children to develop social skills. By being a part of a team, children learn how to communicate and work well with others. They will learn how to take initiative and lead, but then they also learn when it is their turn to sit back and follow. The social skills kids gain by learning how to play with other children from different backgrounds is priceless and will continue to be an asset to them as they grow older.

GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP

Most importantly, playing flag football with i9 Sports teaches your child the value of being a good sport and behaving with integrity, respect and humility, regardless of winning or losing. Being positive and shaking hands with teammates, referees and opponents instills valuable lessons in your child.

Character building and social skills are certainly major benefits to flag football participation, but let’s not forget that it’s also fun and a great way to make new friends! If you want to register your son or daughter for an i9 Sports flag football program, follow this link to see which leagues are available in your area!

Code of Conduct Violations and League Discipline

LMYA Flag Football is committed to providing a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all players, coaches, referees, volunteers, and families. Violations of the Code of Conduct may result in league-issued discipline, including removal from a game, suspension, or further action by LMYA.

Foul Language — Foul language will not be tolerated. A warning may be issued for the first violation. If the behavior continues and a second warning is issued, the player may be required to sit out for one half of the game. If a third violation occurs, the player may be ejected from the game and suspended for the following game.

Physical Violence — Any act of physical violence, including any attempt to intentionally hurt another player, will result in immediate ejection from the game. The player may also be suspended until further review. If the league determines that the player should be suspended for the remainder of the season, no refund will be issued. Additional disciplinary action may also be reviewed and issued by the LMYA Board.

Parents, Fans, and Coaches — Parents, fans, and coaches are expected to treat referees, players, coaches, volunteers, and other families with respect. Yelling at, arguing with, or verbally abusing referees will not be tolerated. A warning may be issued for the first violation. If the behavior continues, the referee and/or league coordinator may remove the individual from the field area. The league may then review the situation and determine whether that individual will be allowed to attend future games for the remainder of the season.

Sideline Filming — Filming from the team sideline, inside the painted team lines, or from anywhere on the field is not permitted unless approved by the league. Restricted areas include the team sideline area, any space within the painted field lines, and any area on the playing field before, during, or after games. Only league-approved photographers or approved individuals may film or photograph games from restricted areas. Anyone violating this policy may be asked to leave the restricted area or may be removed from the game area.

Participation

LMYA Flag Football is focused on participation, player development, teamwork, and creating a positive experience for all players.

Team rosters will typically include up to 10 players, with a minimum of 6 players per team when possible. Final roster sizes may vary based on registration numbers, division size, and the number of available head coaches.

Participation is an important part of our league. Every player is expected to play a meaningful portion of each game, with the goal of each player receiving approximately 50% playing time. Playing time may be adjusted if a player has an injury, medical restriction, behavioral issue, or other limitation that has been communicated to the league and the head coach.

Required and Recommended Equipment

Required:

  • Mouth guard

Recommended:

  • Non-metal football cleats or other non-metal athletic cleats (strongly recommended to help reduce slipping during practices and games)
  • Shorts or pants without pockets (strongly recommended; if a player wears shorts or pants with pockets, the pockets may need to be taped over before the player can participate — tape may leave marks or residue on the material)

Provided by LMYA:

  • Team jersey
  • Flags
  • Flag belt

Jersey Requirement: Players must wear their league-issued team jersey in order to be eligible to play. If a player does not have their team jersey, they may not be permitted to participate in the game.

NFL FLAG FOOTBALL Participation Agreement

After registering, players may also receive additional NFL FLAG information, tips, and resources.

Coaches and Background Checks: All coaches must complete the required registration process and submit any required background checks or clearances to the league. Coaches will not be permitted to participate on the sideline until all league requirements have been completed and approved. https://register.teamsnap.com/form/uFZp3gMyS2dYsdS5n1Ltp

LMYA Elite Travel Flag Football

Take Your Game to the Next Level

LMYA Elite is the competitive travel division of LMYA Flag Football. The program is designed for athletes who are ready to compete at a higher level, develop their football skills, and represent LMYA at regional flag football tournaments.

LMYA Elite teams participate in competitive NFL FLAG and FFL tournaments. Players are selected through open tryouts and are expected to demonstrate skill, effort, coachability, teamwork, and a strong commitment to their team.

Elite Travel Divisions

LMYA Elite currently offers the following travel divisions:

  • 10U Elite Travel
  • 11U Elite Travel
  • 12U Elite Travel
  • 14U Elite Travel

Division availability may vary by season based on player interest, coaching availability, tournament opportunities, and roster needs.

Open Tryouts and Player Selection

LMYA Elite hosts open tryouts for prospective players. The final selection process may vary by coach and team needs. Coaches may consider factors such as: football skills and athletic ability, positional needs, effort and attitude, coachability, teamwork, availability and commitment, and tournament roster requirements. Attending a tryout does not guarantee placement on an Elite team.

Player Commitment

Travel flag football requires a greater commitment than recreational play. Players selected for LMYA Elite are expected to attend at least 90% of scheduled practices and tournaments. Families should review the anticipated schedule and discuss any known conflicts with the coach before accepting a roster position. Practice frequency will depend on the coach, team, and time of year. Additional practices may be scheduled before major tournaments.

Tournament Registration

LMYA Elite teams participate in NFL FLAG, FFL, and other approved competitive tournaments. Players must register through Zorts when required for tournament eligibility and roster verification. Additional tournament registration instructions will be provided by the team's coach or coordinator. Tournament schedules, locations, and travel requirements will vary throughout the season.

Jerseys and Equipment

LMYA Elite players receive custom team apparel and equipment. Player jerseys include: a unique player number, the player's last name, and LMYA Elite team branding. Players are responsible for maintaining their issued uniform and bringing all required equipment to practices and tournaments.

Required or recommended personal equipment may include: mouthguard, approved football cleats, athletic clothing, water bottle, and any additional equipment requested by the coach.

Rec and Travel Participation

Players are permitted to participate in both the LMYA Recreational Flag Football League and LMYA Elite Travel. Families should carefully review both schedules before committing to both programs. Elite players are expected to meet the attendance requirements of their travel team even when participating in recreational flag football.

Training Programs

LMYA Elite may also offer development opportunities outside of the regular travel season, including:

Spring Performance Training — Performance-focused training designed to improve athletic movement, conditioning, strength, speed, agility, and football-specific skills.

LMYA Flag Skills & Drills — Instructional sessions focused on: speed and agility, route running, catching and ball skills, flag pulling, offensive and defensive fundamentals, game awareness and football IQ, confidence, discipline, and teamwork.

Training program availability, age groups, schedules, and registration requirements may vary by season.
